About a year ago Aaron's mom and I made Nora some cute skirts. She's been wearing them to church and liking them. I had great plans to make her a couple more, including a cute blue and white striped one for Easter. But life got busy and I figured that since she only wore skirts once a week it was okay to bag the extra skirt plans.
This spring, Nora turned the tables and wants to wear a skirt every single day. So the two skirts she had just weren't enough anymore, both because I couldn't keep up with the laundry and because they were patterns that didn't match many of her shirts. So, I set out to make her a few more skirts to save everyone's sanity!
I started by suggesting with the blue and white striped fabric I wanted to use last year. But, alas, she wasn't interested because it was 'too stripy'. Guess it's a good thing I never got that skirt made!
She wore her black one on the way to pick fabric,
and her yellow one later to go back to Grandma's to sew.
Nora's #1 request was the heart fabric. She fell in love as soon as she saw it. We made it really ruffly and long. The perfect fancy skirt for tea parties and other elegant gatherings.
Grandma had this blue denim-like fabric in her collection. I love it because it will match virtually everything. And it looks like it will be cool and comfortable in the summer.
I love the pink too, also a good choice to match most of her shirts. Another Grandma fabric.
Nora also specifically wanted purple. Grandma didn't have any of that, so we headed to the fabric store. We were completely undecided and ended up buying three different colors of purple because we all liked different ones.
Aaron's purple was the pink-y purple one. What do you call this- orchid? mauve? Anyway- It has surprised me by being a good match to a lot of her shirts. It's a good color for her.
This one is my favorite purple fabric. Purple with a pink/orchid scroll heart pattern. And this shirt was a total score - the three colors of purple stripes are exact matches to the three purple skirts.
And this is Nora's choice of purple, a more blue-purple with a marbled pattern. She matches the snow glories in the garden!
So now our little princess has 8 lovely skirts and is loving wearing them all. And after this much practice, I'm feeling like a gathered skirt pro!
